09:38 am: Happy Hallowe'en
I blame a friend of mine for getting me started on conspiracy theories. They have spawned a plot bunny that will not leave me alone, though I'm trying to work on Flynn and Cecil. I expect I'll give in fairly soon and just get the short story out of the way.

08:05 pm: Flynn and Cecil
I wrote 4,000 words yesterday and another 1,500 words this morning. I'm going to do some more writing this evening. The break in the late morning and afternoon was for the sake of homework, which is almost done; one brief paper to write tomorrow. I wrote another paper on Friday. This has been a productive weekend.

09:53 am: It's Been A While
I haven't updated in a while; I was out of town looking at schools and have spent the time since I got back working on the applications to graduate schools. I also had a midterm, which I got a very good grade on but was very stressful in the lead-up. Beyond that, I'm writing about two papers a week.

In spite of all that, I've joined a critique group that so far, I'm enjoying very much. I've worked a bit on Flynn & Cecil. I've written a personal essay.

03:26 pm: Short Story
Well, a short story idea had been percolating in the back of my mind for a few days. This morning in my first class, the idea came to the fore in such a fashion that it couldn't be ignored. I am now in my fourth class and have written over 2,000 words of said short story. My goal is to finish it up today, if possible. I do know how it's going and how it will end.

08:31 am: Long Away & Far Ago
I am working on graphics for Long Away & Far Ago. The one on the home page is now very nice, in my opinion. I intend to use similar graphics for the other pages. I also finally got my cover page to look like it's supposed to minus the art that is not yet complete.

11:09 am: Grad School Essay
After many drafts, much stress, and too much turmoil, I have what I hope will be the final draft of the first of my application essays. There are eleven more that I have to write, but I can use this as a basis for those. The first is the hardest, they say. I am happy to say it addresses exactly what I was asked with my personality. At least, that's my opinion.

05:46 pm: A longer prompt from last weekend
This was for a prompt where we wrote for five minutes, one of the three longer exercises that we did. I really like it and think it could turn into something very interesting with a bit of work. I'd love to hear some other opinions. Again, the bit in parentheses is added so I don't forget where the story might be going over time.

The prompt was "guests from out of town." I interpreted this broadly for what I wrote, but it was the image that came into my mind: a town walled off from the rest of the world for years so that no one comes in and no one leaves.

07:04 am: I wrote my admissions essay for the masters program as UC Davis. It needs to go through at least one more draft before it's ready. I keep picking at it. When it is done, I'll post it here under a cut.

06:04 am: I wrote a paper due tomorrow. I'm going to turn it in today.

04:25 pm: Writing to the Prompt
Here are ten short pieces that were written to a prompt in the writing panel yesterday. Each had a time limit of one minute, finish your sentence when the timer goes.

One Minute Prompts )

Bits in parentheses are added now that I'm home, so I don't lose the gist of the idea. There are three longer pieces that I'll try to get up soon.
